Luambe National Park

This beautiful park is found between the North and South Luangwa Parks on the east bank of the Luangwa River. The atmosphere is remote due perhaps to the lack of tourists and safari operations.

It is a small, hot park of great vegetative beauty but little game due to the intense hunting around the area in the past. Although there are buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, impala, roan, eland, bushpig and lion still found in the park.

Many smaller animals also live here and the bird population is still strong. The vegetation is still in good shape, and it is suggested that if the area is left alone for a few years, animals will return. There are private investors looking at re-establishing it, so perhaps the park will regain some of its former glory in the future.

Luambe National Park is a very remote place, off the beaten track and not on the usual tourist path. The tranquillity and its beautiful landscape makes it a very idyllic place in the bush.

It can also serve as a convenient stopover for people going to North Luangwa from South Luangwa or vice versa and also for the more adventurous travelling from Mpika down the Munyamadze corridor and entering into the Luambe National Park. 4×4 vehicles are essential for those safari tours.
